Tonight I am very angry. not at any specific person or thing, but at a reality of our existance. I've spent the majority of my evening (it's now 4:15am) trying to not care, but I'm afraid the battle has been lost. I care, and in caring am roused to anger.
I'm tired of people who exist for no purpose other than to cause suffering. Schoolyard bullies and workplace tyrants. I pause to read the headlines: another school shooting, a drunk driver kills a family, a father beats his wife, a mother drowns her children, a dictator imprisons the innocent, a bomber kills families in a shopping district.
How can any of these people justify their actions? Do they even try, or are they so dead on the inside that life means nothing to them?
When did it become fashionable for children to kill children? When did we stop being shocked by the news?
And this is only the portion of the problem that is dynamic enough to make the news.
Every day good people are hurt by coworkers and schoolmates or family who think nothing of the psychological ramifications of their actions. One lie intended to cause embarrasement in a colegue could cause their financial ruin. One word of criticism could leave a child with an emotional scar that will NEVER heal. One jest could cut too deep...
Do we even care anymore? Why bother trying to be a decent human? Where is the motivation to be loving?
There is none. Users use and everyone else gets used by them.
